The conservative-dominated Supreme Court ruled today that the Environmental Protection Agency may not regulate carbon emissions that cause climate change:
The decision is a huge setback in the struggle to limit greenhouse gas emissions that are causing the climate crisis. The ruling is mindless self destruction that shocks the moral conscience.
The decision states that the EPA may not create regulations to limit carbon emissions, but it noted that Congress may do so. The problem is that Republicans and two conservative Democrats vote against any plan to limit greenhouse gasses.
The planet’s only hope is that Americans will vote for more Democrats for Congress in the midterm elections this fall. Unfortunately, polls show that Republicans are expected to pick up more seats.
Update: Temperatures are expected to reach 104 degrees in the UK in a few days. Scientists had thought that the global climate crisis would not generate temperatures that high in the UK until the year 2050:
Today's SCOTUS ruling on EPA vs W Va makes it even harder to address the climate crisis at a time when we need to be doing all we can. (short thread) https://t.co/j3nz5NQxYY

Trump knew that many of his supporters had guns. He demanded that these armed protesters be allowed to participate in the coup attempt. And he knew that some of them were members of violent terrorist groups such as the so-called “Proud Boys” and “Oath Keepers.”
Out-of-control psycho Trump also lunged at a Secret Service agent, grabbed the car’s steering wheel and tried to choke him:
Conservative attorneys are saying that this latest revelation about Trump wanting terrorists with guns to takeover the Capitol building is the smoking gun that can send him to prison:
Famed Watergate reporter Carl Bernstein said today on CNN that the testimony today about Trump’s attempted violent coup describes the most damning behavior of any president since the Civil War.
Fellow Watergate reporter Bob Woodward said on CNN that Trump’s staff said Trump was insane and was planning to use nuclear weapons when he was president.
Trump and his creepy henchmen are attempting to scare witnesses. Such behavior is known as witness tampering, which is a crime. Witnesses are still testifying before the Jan. 6 committee, and their testimony is revealing damning evidence of epic scale and importance.
Immoral and vile Trump attempted to send an armed mob of terrorists to take over the Capitol building, murder the vice president and prevent Congress from certifying the incoming presidency of Joe Biden. That’s an attempted coup.
Former Trump administration aide Cassidy Hutchinson testified that she believes Trump’s comments about Pence were disgusting and unpatriotic.
Fortunately, the Secret Service and Capitol Police stopped Trump from succeeding in his coup attempt. It should be obvious now that the nation must take the next step and put Trump in prison for the rest of his life.
Trump should never be allowed to serve as president or any other political office.
If the Justice Department does not charge Trump and successfully secure a conviction and prison term, the message will be sent that a president can do anything and get away with it.
Of course, the real reasons that many millions of Americans do not pay attention to the news is that they are lazy, stupid and/or apathetic, but a study cannot identify the politically incorrect truth about that.
Millions of Americans do not care or understand that we cannot have democracy when only a well-informed elite segment of the population can avoid harm because they know what is happening. Instead, to have democracy we must have a well-informed citizenry. If we do not have that, we get Trump and fascism. Again.
The Digital News Report 2022 provides unique insights into the state of journalism worldwide. Delve into reader habits, story selection, and how younger audiences are increasingly choosing to access the news.
An average of two newspapers close in the U.S. each week. That creates news deserts, where communities have no local news outlet. And communities without a watchdog press are breeding grounds for corruption and incompetent government.
HBO is showing “Endangered,” a documentary about threats to the news media in the U.S. and around the world. The documentary shows that many people do not trust the news media because of these threats from politicians. The threats include harassment and physical attacks against journalists by the police in the U.S.:
It is extremely depressing to see so many people in the U.S. and around the world who have been brainwashed by politicians and their propagandists to hate the news media so much that they physically attack journalists. Still, as the documentary shows, these journalists go out into the streets every day and risk their lives to report the truth. Thank you, journalists. There are many people who support you.
It has been popular among professors for decades to tell their students that it does not matter whether a Democrat or Republican is elected president of the U.S. Then they claim that most Democrats are too centrist or moderate to support the people.
These professors lied. It does matter who is elected as president, and they know that. We see the proof that it matters today with the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and greenlight states outlawing abortion:
You think that your vote does not matter? Then how do you explain Trump’s appointment of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court? And Kavanaugh’s vote today to overturn Roe v. Wade? And the Supreme Court’s vote being narrowly decided 5-4?
If Trump had not been elected as president in 2016, Roe v. Wade would not have been overturned today.
Only around half of the eligible U.S. population votes in most presidential elections. You can thank the lazy nonvoting citizens and the professors who lied to them for today’s Roe v. Wade decision.
One of the extremist right wing Supreme Court justices, nutty Clarence Thomas, wrote today that he wants the Supreme Court to restrict access to birth control and outlaw gay sex and marriage:
THREAD: When I got arrested, a woman I met my first day in jail told me I should take notes on everything and someday write a book. A decade later, I FINALLY have – and now you can buy it here.

Trump hurts more than just fellow rich people. He also goes after low income workers. You know, people like us:
"I felt horrible for picking this job."
Former Georgia election worker Wandrea "Shaye" Moss told the Jan. 6 panel about the emotional toll on her family after Donald Trump falsely accused Moss and her mother of tampering with election results. https://t.co/INt4HGVXgnpic.twitter.com/mKufRepRNK

The temperature in heavily populated Delhi reached a life-threatening 120 degrees. And soaring temperatures in Europe and the polar regions alarmed and shocked scientists.
The result: Glaciers are melting. Reservoirs are drying up. Fires are raging. Climate change is here, and it has reached crisis levels:
Increasing temperatures could lead to power outages in the U.S.:
Climate change is combining with droughts to push up temperatures and make life more dangerous for homeless people around the world. https://t.co/GEDXMddYck
Californians deserve incompetent or even fascist government. That unfortunate fact is accurate because most Californians are too apathetic, lazy or stupid to vote:
All households were sent ballots, and voting by mail could not have been easier. There was plenty of news coverage about the candidates. Unfortunately, most people don’t read newspapers and so they know little if anything about the candidates or about what is at stake in the elections.
And so when people whine about not getting what they want, they really have no one to blame but themselves. That’s how life works, and there is no disputing this fact for people who can’t be bothered to vote. But whine they will anyway.
Democracy is a verb, people. Use it or lose it.
Turnout is dismal so far for California’s primary election Tuesday, with just over 1 in 10 registered voters having cast a ballot as of Sunday.https://t.co/CQOoB9VOV9
The hearings are to begin at 5 p.m. Pacific time June 9.
And the hearing is underway. New videos shown by the committee demonstrate very clearly that the violent coup attempt was not just “normal tourism,” as Republicans falsely claimed in outrageous lies.
The new videos also make a convincing argument in favor of education. The violent mob that invaded the Capitol building was composed of ignorant idiots who were misinformed by the liar-in-chief Trump. A well-educated population cannot be manipulated so easily.
The shame most Republicans in Congress should feel for supporting Trump was also spotlighted in the hearing’s first day.
“Tonight, I say this to my Republican colleagues who are defending the indefensible: There will come a day when Donald Trump is gone, but your dishonor will remain,” said Rep. Liz Cheney.
Congressional hearings are usually guaranteed to put people to sleep, but the hearings have been very compelling and powerful. It will be easy to watch the hearings either live or streamed afterwards, and so there is no excuse for not watching them. Anyone who chooses not to watch does not deserve democracy.
Update: Only 20 million Americans watched the first day of the hearings. That means that hundreds of millions of Americans do not deserve democracy and that Trump or some other fascist could win the presidency in 2024.
I like the quote about democracy being a verb. It is not an object that we can put in a display case and take for granted. It is something we all must actively nurture and defend. And that requires that we all must be well informed. So, the hearing is a must watch:
January 6 was the violent culmination of an extensive effort to overturn a presidential election.
The American people know a lot about those events, but soon they will learn more, and see how close we came to losing our democracy.
