We hear about this sort of thing happening in authoritarian countries, but we do not expect it to occur in the U.S. But it does, and it should be stopped.
One lesson the censors should learn is that censorship of student journalism almost always backfires and draws more attention to the students’ stories and photos. Thousands of additional readers will visit the student news website, and they will then side with the students. And they will rally to the defense of the student journalists if the problem continues. The censors can’t win.
