Hopes grow for salmon in California with dam removals

Yurok Tribe members are encouraged by early signs that salmon are returning upstream in California’s Klamath River:

It will take years for the river to recover after algae and silt build up caused by the dams and from the ravages of agriculture, gold mining, logging and the climate crisis. Removing the dams, however, is being hailed as an important step toward recovery.

The rumors are true, the first of the four Klamath dams to be removed, Copco 2, is coming down.
The remaining dams will be removed in 2024.
